Up Against It

I’m up against the wall at the moment, so I’m going to take the easy, insta-post way out of my Murderati commitment today.

Okay, okay, groan all you want, but I’ve got a living to make…

First up, is John Irving (complete with really bad camera work) saying exactly how I feel about writing:

Next is Neil Gaiman saying exactly what I say to aspiring writers:

Here’s a video I wish I’d seen before I started writing my own Great American Novel:

And believe it or not, this got over 34,800 views:

Okay, I’m going back to work now.  Talk amongst yourselves…

Hah, these are great. Especially the Novel Writing Made Easy video…there are just days when this all needs to be explained to me like I’m five.

Okay, I have a question I hope one of the ‘rati’s’ can help me with regarding a submission.

An editor requested the full of my novel (after another editor sent her the partial). It’s been four (very long) months since she asked for the book. The editor is an assistant editor but does make acquisitions on her own. My question is, since I haven’t heard from her in four months, should I consider it a pass (like with an agent–who, btw, has also had the full for four months with no response)? Or is it okay to send a polite follow-up to both agent and editor.

I’ve been nervous about doing that because what I don’t know saves me from buying a case of Oreos and Fudge Brownie Ice Cream. ;-P

Good luck on the next book, Rob. I can’t wait to get back to my tbr pile and read Kill Her Again!

I love the first two clips and laughed through the third. The fourth? Ugh. Six minutes of my life gone now.

Terri, by all means send a polite follow up to the agent and editor! Four months is plenty long.

I’m with Louise on the first three videos. I really enjoyed them.

    # 4? I watched a little more than two minutes and got bored.

    Terri,
As Louise said, you can send a polite follow up note. It’s appropriate.

Hahaha, Louise. You made it longer with that fourth video than I did. I think I lasted about thirty seconds. But maybe I should have watched the whole thing. I need SOMEONE to tell me how to make this job easy.

Terri, I agree with Louise and Pari. Send a note.
