Easing into the week . . .

It’s another Monday

  • ·         another day of gearing up for the week
  • ·         answering all those emails that I left for today
  • ·          . . . and all the others that somehow appeared in my inbox over the weekend
  • ·         another day of my full-time job, of trying to get my creative writing in, of cooking and cleaning and, well, this week is going to be really really busy and very interesting.

You see, every few months IDEAS in Psychiatry brings in these extraordinary speakers for several events — for health care professionals and for the public. Dr. William S. Breitbart will be our guest this week. I’ve been looking forward to his visit and anticipate it will be one of the most interesting we’ve had. However, it also means I’ll be working a lot of extra hours.  I don’t mind at all, but it’s put me in a mood where I’m not particularly interested in heavy thinking.

Nope.

I want this:

Lion Cub Trying To Roar brought to you by Animal Videos

And a baby seal on a couch

And cats with thumbs

And pages and pages of pictures of the aurora borealis

Because sometimes you’ve just got to stop the thinkiness for a little while and remember to enjoy life.

So that’s this week’s blog. A vacation of sorts.

Please post cool links that I can visit during my breaks this week. I’m in the mood for amusement and beauty, but please note that I’ll only click if I know you OR if you personalize your message in some way so that I — and all of us at the ‘Rati — know it’s not spam.

Oh! I have two links! No, three!

This first one is more or less intellectual and features one of my favorite musical comedians, Bill Bailey, doing a Belgian Jazz version of the Doctor Who theme from his "Remarkable Guide to the Orchestra": http://youtu.be/nsxt0xxNrdM (no translation should be necessary, but I do have one, from a friend who lived in Belgium for a few years), The whole program, if you have an hour, is here: http://youtu.be/MdO3u6ORlGM (check out the bassoon bit around 12:54—LOVE!)

This next one is cuteness in it's purest form—an orphaned baby bat. If you don't make some sort of involuntary squee sound around 2:28 and or 3:32, I give up: http://youtu.be/FkeSSdwbnPg

    Pari:

    Thinkiness is next to truthiness.

Here's a video of dogs with their heads out of car windows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtNWyzW97pk&feature=youtube_gdata_player

A video of my favorite comedienne, Maria Bamford, doing my favorite bit of hers — free therapy with the operator: http://comedians.jokes.com/maria-bamford/videos/maria-bamford—on-the-inside

And last but so not least, a link to an article on religiously sanctioned sex toys: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/12/30/religious-sex-toy-sites-vow-to-save-marriages.html

    Hope they help.

    Have a great brainless week!

Here's from a Brazilian Blog, and this post is called Ache o Gato, or, in English, "Find The Cat". In each of these pictures, there's a hidden cat. These pictures are kind of a fever on Facebook here in Brazil, and definitely for the bored. No instructions needed, just look and find. Some of them are excruciatingly hard, others, you just need to squint or turn your head a bit. Good luck, it's addicting!!! I liked their page on Facebook and OMG <3 I LOVE FINDING THE CAT!!! I always feel so accomplished!!!

I love looking through National Geographic's animal photos. I find something uplifting and inspiring each time I visit this site.

Good luck with your busyness and thanks for taking the time to write a great post that got us to share some fun links. That's one of the many reasons I love this blog–each person has a unique perspective and brings out a different form of creativity.

Happy Monday everyone. Here's to the beginning of a new week full of possibilities.

I'd like to know if the lion cub was at a zoo or rescue facility – hope it wasn't a private owner. I'm appalled that wild, often endangered, animals are illegally sold to people who want exotic kitties but who have no clue and no skills to deal with the adult cats they become. Hope this little sweetie will have a happier fate.

I heartily approve of less thinkiness on Mondays. Especially on Mondays when I'm suffering from a miserable head cold. [sniffle]

Here's a video of a baby polar bear that was orphaned and is being nurtured by people. So he can grow up and turn into a more fearsome and deadly form. And maybe kill people who are dumb enough to get too close. Wait, that's verging on thinkiness. Still, he's awfully cute.

Hope you enjoyed the seminar, Pari. I've heard of Breitbart, but I'm not sure why. Probably I read something, somewhere.

    Hey all,
I promise to hit all the links throughout the week. The first event for Dr. Breitbart (not to be confused with Andrew Breitbart!) was wonderful.

We've got about 8 more events this week — I think that's all — to coordinate and make sure they come off w/o a hitch.

A very busy week. Thanks to everyone who sent links. I really appreciate it.

    KD — get better soon!
