Separated at birth

By Cornelia Read

So I'm sitting there watching Lord of the Rings on TNT last night, and I just can't help thinking that a lot of the actors look like other actors, in this Spy Magazine kind of way. (God, how I miss Spy! Especially the headlines... like the time they did an article on Charlton Heston at an NRA rally and called it "Guns 'n' Moses." I mean, how great is that, right?)

I had never seen LOTR before, other than the Hobbit doors on an episode of America's Next Top Model when they all went to New Zealand this one season. So maybe it was because the whole thing was kind of fresh to me, but it really started to get weird after a while.

I mean, doesn't Saruman

Look an awful lot like Uncle Junior?

And Boromir...

Totally look like Terry on True Blood?

And I know it's kind of a cheat to compare LOTR with Harry Potter, but still... Legolas...

And Mr. Malfoy?

And then of course there's Frodo...

and Susan Boyle...

A hairy Orc...

And this guy leaving voicemails for his girlfriend?

Well, and Galadriel...

And Stevie Nicks is just too easy...

And then of course my mind started to wander, and I matched Kendra...

with Dr. Cornelius

McNulty...

With Geico...

These guys...

And these guys...

Rahm Emanuel...

With Joe Piscopo...

Journey...

With the Bay City Rollers...

And Daniel Day Lewis...

With Robbie Benson...

Last but not least... Donald Trump

And a day at the county fair...

How 'bout you guys, thought of any unlikely twins lately?

and...

Sweetie, I love you so damn much this morning. These separated-at-birth things are my wheelhouse. The Frodo/Susan Boyle scroll-down made me guffaw out loud.

As for the Boromir, True Blood look-alikes, I immediately thought of Herc on Friday Night Lights. Apparently he is NOT the same actor as the True Blood guy, however. Coulda sworn...

Fun post!

I can't find my Ni-Ni.

STOP! I can't get past Frodo and Susan Boyle. I hope I haven't wet my pants.

Alafair, so glad you like these! And you're totally right about Herc...

Anon-ni-ni...

Debby, I can lend you some pants. I just got 19 pairs at the Garnet Hill employee sale (corduroys were $.25, so I kind of stocked up...)

And how about Cary Grant in any film he ever made with Cary Grant in any other film he ever made?

All the same, I love Cary Grant.

I can't get past the $.25 corduroy pants.

AND they retail for $88.

Best.

Shopping.

Ever.

Almost better than a Cary Grant movie.

Add me to the list of Susan Boyle/Frodo loud guffawers. (it's early, I'm on my first cuppa, I can use bad syntax and make up words if I want to)

Miss C., your visual cortex must be the crash of a carnival and a three-ring circus.

Leo G. Caroll as Mr. Waverly in 'Man From U.N.C.L.E.' and Linda Hunt as Hetty in 'NCI LA.' I adore them both.

kit! Chemistry homework!! OMFG. Only class I ever got a D- in for the year. Feh!

mary lynn, those totally sound like real words to me. Maybe I need more coffee...

Tom, NOW I know why I can never find my car keys!!

July 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCornelia Read

Of course, you can't find your car keys, you're too busy creating-your post is a hoot (25 cents for cords? Really?)

I've always thought Steve Buscemi looks a lot like a frightened newt.

My favorite (besides Frodo and Susan Boyle, of course) is Journey and The Bay City Rollers. Those. Pants. Are. So. Tight. on Journey, and Those. Pants. Are. So. Stupid. on the Rollers.

Okay...I totally like The Donald compared to cotton candy at the fair...

Wow, you're an employee of Garnet Hill? Can you get me a good price on some of their home furnishings? If $88 pairs of corduroys are only $0.25, how much is a $938 Blue Slate, Londonderry Pine Panel Queen Bed Set at employee prices? And no, this isn't a trick question. Enquiring minds need to know...

You had me at Uncle Junior.
